Satriano

SATRIANO

Satriano is located on the Ionian side of Serre between the valleys  Ancinale and Ancinalesca. Its origin is uncertain, according to someone it was originated by the confluence of Greek colonists who, between VII and VIII century, abandoned the ancient Cecino due to Arab destruction and they took shelter in a stite easier to defend. In support of this thesis, the same name derives from the Sainaro’s place that is near the mouth of Ancinale. With the arrival of Normans, Satriano passed to Altavilla which descendants kept it for five centuries becoming principality with the jurisdiction on the hamlets of Davoli, San Sostene and Cardinale.
