class=stile21>La specie più importante e rappresentativa delle foreste delle Serre è il Lupo (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Canis Lupus Italicus</span></em>), che è tornato a ricolonizzare questo territorio dopo alcuni decenni di assenza. Al secondo posto tra i mammiferi delle Serre, quanto a rarità e ad importanza, c è l Istrice (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Hystrix Cristata</span></em>). Anche questa specie era data ufficialmente per inesistente sulle Serre ed in Aspromonte dalla zoologia ufficiale. Altro importante protagonista della fauna delle Serre è il Gatto selvatico (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Felis Silvestris</span></em>). La Martora (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Martes Martes</span></em>), è un instancabile predatore della stazza di un gatto domestico, simile alla più comune faina. Questi i quattro mammiferi più rari della fauna delle Serre. Habitat forestali, ma alternati a zone aperte, preferisce invece il Tasso (Meles).</span><br> <span class=stile211>Non troppo comune, ormai, la Lepre autoctona dei nostri boschi. La Lepre è un animale schivo e timido e abita terreni misti, preferibilmente in pianura ove si nutre di erbe, scorze, rametti. </span><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#666666'><br> <span class=stile211>Comunissima è invece la Volpe (</span><em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Vulpes</span></em><span class=stile211>) : vive praticamente dappertutto, scavando la sua tana nella terra e nutrendosi di tutto, senza disdegnare anche gli avanzi di cibo presenti nelle discariche.</span><br> <span class=stile211>Altro predatore di piccoli animali è la Faina (</span><em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Martes Foina</span></em><span class=stile211>), simile alla martora. Non disdegna come tane i solai dei vecchi edifici, si nutre di piccoli mammiferi e uccelli ma anche, soprattutto in autunno, di frutti e bacche. Ancor più piccola è la Donnola (</span><em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Mustela Nivalis</span></em><span class=stile211>), le sue ridotte dimensioni e la forma straordinariamente affusolata le consentono anche di inseguire i roditori nelle tane. Inconfondibile, per la sua livrea nera, è la Puzzola (</span><em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Mustela Putorius</span></em><span class=stile211>), di dimensioni analoghe a quelle della faina.</span></span></p> </td> </tr> <tr style='mso-yfti-irow:3'> <td colspan=3 style='padding:.75pt .75pt .75pt .75pt'> <p class=stile21>Abbiamo poi il Riccio (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Erinaceus Europaeus</span></em>) diffuso un po dappertutto sulle Serre, d inverno va generalmente in letargo in nidi ricavati tra i cespugli. Il Ghiro (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Glis</span></em>), la livrea grigia è il suo maggiore elemento distintivo. Predilige i boschi di latifoglie dove si nutre di frutti secchi e di semi. Inconfondibile per la sua pelliccia nera con una macchia bianca sul petto e sul ventre e per la lunga coda è lo Scoiattolo meridionale <em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>( Sciurus Meridionalis</span></em>), vero principe dei boschi di conifere ma anche delle faggete e dei castagneti, costruisce il suo nido nel tronco degli alberi. Il Quercino (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Eliomys Quercinus</span></em>) è un altro piccolo roditore che si nutre di molte cose, tra cui insetti, lumache, uova e pulcini di uccelli : costruisce il suo nido nei muri, negli alberi o tra le rocce. Roditore dalle abitudini quasi interamente arboricole è infine il Moscardino (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Muscardinus Avellanarius</span></em>). Naturalmente, sulle Serre vivono altri piccoli mammiferi come la Talpa (Talpa Europea), il Toporagno nano (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Sorex Minutus</span></em>), il Toporagno comune (<em><span style='font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"'>Sorex Araneus</span></em>), il Toporagno acquatico (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Neomys Fodiens</span></em>), la Crocidura minore (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Crocidura&nbsp; Suaveolens</span></em>), il Mustiolo (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Suncus Etruscus</span></em>) l Arvicola terrestre (<em><span style='font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"'>Arvicola Terrestris</span></em>).<br> Per quanto riguarda l avifauna e altri rapaci. Tra i boschi ama rifugiarsi e predare all agguato l Astore (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Accipiter Gentilis</span></em>). Nidifica soprattutto sui grandi alberi di conifere e preda con abilità mammiferi ed uccelli. Abitudini ed aspetto simile ha lo sparviero (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Accipiter Nisus</span></em>), che è però più piccolo e più diffuso dell astore. Sulle guglie rocciose del gruppo del Mammicomito-valle della Precariti nidifica probabilmente il falco pellegrino&nbsp; (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Falco Peregrinus</span></em>) noto per l elevatissima velocità (circa 300 chilometri orari) di cui è capace in picchiata. Il nibbio reale (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Milvus</span></em>) si distingue nettamente dagli altri rapaci per la coda biforcuta come quella delle rondini. Nella fascia orientale delle Serre nidifica anche il nibbio bruno (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Milvus Migrans</span></em>), di dimensioni inferiori rispetto al nibbio reale.<br> Comunque è la poiana (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Buteo</span></em>) facilmente avvistabile ovunque mentre rotea o plana pigolando mestamente alla ricerca di una preda. Altrettanto comune è il Gheppio (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Falco Tinniculus</span></em>) vive preferibilmente in ambienti aperti. Nidifica all interno di grossi tronchi o su falesie di roccia. E  probabilmente presente sulle Serre, con pochissimi esemplari, anche il raro e grande Gufo reale (Bubo), che può raggiungere anche i 70 cm di altezza. Tra gli altri rapaci presenti sulle Serre c è il Gufo comune (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Asio Otus</span></em>), l Alocco (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Strix Aluco</span></em>), il Barbagianni (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Tito Alba</span></em>) la Civetta (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Athene Noctua</span></em>) e l Assiolo (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Otus Scops</span></em>).<br> Una quantità di altri uccelli popolano naturalmente il Parco. A cominciare dalle svariate specie&nbsp; di uccelli acquatici che sostano attorno al Lago dell Angitola, sulle pendici nord  occidentali&nbsp; del massiccio: folaga, gallinella d acqua, moriglione, moretta tabaccata, germano reale, airone cenerino, garzetta, gazza, cuculo, merlo, merlo acquaiolo, cornacchia grigia, picchio rosso maggiore, picchio rosso minore, picchio muratore, pettirosso, usignolo, passera oltremontana, rampichino, codibugnolo, capinera, ghiandaia, piccione selvatico, beccaccia, torcicollo, cappellaccia, cardellino, passero solitario, strillozzo, fringuello, occhiocotto, cinciallegra ecc.<br> Tra i serpenti un posto di primo piano riveste certamente la Vipera comune&nbsp; (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Vipera Aspis Hugyi</span></em>), altri serpenti delle Serre sono il comunissimo Biacco (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Coluber Viridiflavus</span></em>) il Cervone (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Elaphe Quatuorlineata</span></em>) , il più grande tra i rettili italiani ( può raggiungere anche i 2 metri e 40 centimetri di lunghezza); l altrettanto mansueta Biscia dal collare (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Natrix</span></em>) esperta nuotatrice capace di espellere un liquido maleodorante se molestata; il Colubro (Coronella Austriaca),&nbsp; il Colubro d Esculapio (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Elaphe longissima</span></em>); la Biscia asserella (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Natrix Tassellata</span></em>).<br> Tra gli anfibi&nbsp; è da segnalare in particolare l appariscente Salamandra pezzata (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Salamandra</span></em>) la Salamandrina dagli occhiali (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Salamandrina terdigitata</span></em>), l Ululone dal ventre giallo (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Bombina Variegata</span></em>), caratterizzato da chiazze gialle sotto il ventre. <br> Le Testuggini sono rappresentate dalla Testuggine comune (<em><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Testudo Hermanni</span></em>).</p> <div> <p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:#666666'>Nei fiumi e nelle acque interne vive la trota mediterranea (<em><span style='font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"'>Salmo trutta macrostigma</span></em>).
